NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that the Motor Vessel Frank X. Armiger – a pedestrian-only vessel – has been cleared for service by the U.S. Coast Guard and will return to service at 7:15 a.m. on Monday, September 23, at the Algiers Point/Canal Street route.
Since August, the M/V Louis B. Porterie has been carrying pedestrians and vehicles between Algiers Point and Canal Street. Due to budget constraints, the M/V Armiger – a smaller boat that recently underwent repairs to its generator – proved to be the most feasible option for operating the Algiers/Canal route, which primarily services pedestrians. Handicap and stroller access will be accommodated via the vehicular ramp, located on the first deck.
The M/V Levy, a large vehicular boat, will continue servicing the Lower Algiers/Chalmette route.
