The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) supports the implementation of transportation mobility improvements to Interstate 210 (I-210) that promote economic development, protect the environment, and maintain a sound quality of life for residents of Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Based on the consensus of needs, challenges, priorities, and strategies for the corridor a comprehensive decision-making process was undertaken to identify and evaluate transportation infrastructure improvements for I-210. Over the past five years, traffic volumes have increased substantially along I-210 and peak period congestion is a recurring condition at several interchanges. Crash data indicate that the number of crashes occurring each year is increasing, therefore warranting safety improvements at various locations along the corridor. This has led to the need to conduct a comprehensive traffic and transportation study for the I-210 Corridor in order to quantify traffic operational conditions and to define transportation strategies that will contribute to long term mobility and the economic viability of the area.
