There is upcoming construction of a roundabout in Winn Parish at the intersection of US Hwy 84 and LA Hwy 34. The project is scheduled to go to bid between 2015 and 2016. The plans will include the construction of a roundabout in the northeast corner of the intersection and upon the completion of the internal portions of the roundabout, construction will proceed with connecting the legs of the roundabout to LA 34 and US 84. After the roundabout improvements are completed the existing roadway sections of LA 34 and US 84 will be removed. The construction time should be approximately 8 months with an estimated cost of $1,250,000.

"Since I use the roundabout several times a day on my way to and from work, I can really see how it speeds the flow. Now instead of waiting for several changes of the light, I barely slow down unless another car is in the circle."
-Annette B. Slidell, La.
This project will reconstruct the existing signalized intersection of LA 1091 (Robert Road) and Brownswitch Road into a one-lane, modern roundabout.
The purpose for constructing this innovative type of intersection is two-fold: improve the safety and improve the traffic flow.
LA 42 at LA 431
Start date: February 2012
Finish date: Fall 2012
Cost: $1.24 million
Contractor: Command Construction
This safety project will construct a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of LA 42 and LA 431, which is located just west
of Port Vincent in Ascension Parish. The project will also include new lighting in and around the roundabout.
Roundabouts are an innovative and cost effective tool that increase safety, improve traffic flow and enhance the aesthetics of
an intersection.
Lane Closures - No total road closures will occur however will be times when single lane closures are necessary.
Flagging crews will be present to direct traffic through the area when one lane is closed. Lane closures are limited to 7 pm to 4 am
nightly during the weekdays. On the weekends, single-lane closures will begin at 7 pm Friday evening and remain closed until 4 am
Monday morning. We will have no lane closures during holiday weekends.

- Wallace Dean Road
- Forty Oaks Farm Road
- Wallace Road
- Dean Chapel Road
- Good Hope Road
- Kiroli Road
- LA 617(Warren Drive)

The Scott Roundabout is a $2.3 million project that involves constructing a roundabout at the intersection of La. 93 and La. 3168.
Roundabouts, when compared to traditional intersections, help to improve safety because of slower speeds and the elimination of more severe crashes.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts save lives by:
- Reducing fatalities by up to 90%
- Reducing injury crashes up to 76%
- Reducing pedestrian crashes up to 30% to 40%
- Creating up to 75% fewer conflict points than a four-way intersection. (Conflict points are any point where the paths of two through or turning vehicles diverge, merge or cross.)
Completed work: The existing roadway has been removed in preparation for construction of the roundabout’s center circle.
Continuing: The contractor is currently constructing the center portion of the roundabout, as well as installing new drainage structures. Construction on this project began in September 2012 and is estimated for completion in fall 2013.

More Roundabouts Possible in Acadiana
LA 531
The public meeting will present 2 design alternatives that will widen portions of the
existing roadway to increase capacity near the interchange ramps.
- Also included is a “no build” option
- Installing roundabouts along the corridor
- Widening the existing roadway and bridge
This project is currently in the environmental assessment phase. The next phase is design, which is estimated to complete in the fall 2015.
DOTD estimates work on the project could begin in 2016.
