Nelson Road Extension & Bridge and W. Sallier Street Improvements
Engineering, ROW & Utility:
1/2014 – 1/2016
1/2016 to 1/2018
The purpose of the Nelson Road Extension & Bridge and W. Sallier Street Improvements projects is to provide a direct transportation link for the traveling public from Interstate 210 and southern Lake Charles across Contraband Bayou, and improve existing roadway access to downtown Lake Charles and the Port of Lake Charles (a major port facility in Louisiana).
Nelson Road is currently a major north-south state route servicing the southwestern portion of Lake Charles that terminates just north of its I-210 interchange. To reach downtown and destinations north and east of I-210, vehicles currently divert along I-210, West Prien Lake Road and Lake Street. Another link is needed within the existing roadway network in order to balance the traffic demand and access between southwest Lake Charles and the downtown area. Improved access is also needed from I-210 to the Port of Lake Charles to assist in meeting the future expansion of their facilities.
