LA 3156 Bayou Teche Bridge (Jefferson Street)

Project Details: State Proj. No.: 823-42-0005
Finish date: Summer 2013
Cost: $7.2 million
Contractor: Cecil D. Gassiott, LLC

This $7.3M project, located in New Iberia on LA 3156, will replace the aging Jefferson Street Bridge over Bayou Teche. A concrete pile supported swing span bridge will replace the existing old timber supported steel swing span which was built in 1943, recently having many mechanical failures and in dire need of replacement. The new structure will be composed of a wider more decorative bridge and sidewalk which will service the traveling public to and from the downtown area.

This new bridge will be built with a decorative appeal, installing old-style lamp posts and railings to make the bridge feel more historic, mimicking the downtown architectural theme.
