Joor Road Reconstruction
Start date: February 2007
Finish date: July 2009
Cost: $26.8 million
Contractor: Denton-James LLC
In February 2007, construction will begin on Joor Road (La. 946) in East Baton Rouge Parish between Jones Bayou and Hooper Road. This project is important to this growing community outside of Baton Rouge and will provide some relief to the congestion in this area. Currently, this section of Joor Road serves nearly 16,000 vehicles per day.
This 3.1 mile, two-lane section of road will be rebuilt to a five-lane road. This includes two lanes in each direction and a center turn-lane.
It will also include the construction of two new girder span bridges at the Comite River and Comite River Relief. The bridges will include shoulders on each side as well as a center turn-lane.
The project development is a joint effort between DOTD and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
