The I-49 North project is a 36-mile project that will construct a four-lane interstate with a 4-foot inside shoulder and a 10-foot outside shoulder from I-220 in Shreveport to the Arkansas state line.
The estimated total cost of the I-49 North project is $622 million. Approximately $460 million in federal earmarks and state matching funds have been secured for I-49 North. The project is broken up into 11 segments A-J.

- I-220 to La. 1, Segment J (MLK Blvd.-La. 1) To begin Q1 2013
- I-220 to La. 1, Segment K (I-220 to MLK Blvd.) To begin in 2014
Opening for segments A-I are scheduled for the summer of 2013, leaving the final two segments (J-K) to be completed in 2016.

Long-term plans call for I-49 to be extended from Lafayette to New Orleans and north from Shreveport to
Kansas City, MO where it will connect with other interstates and provide a seamless link from Louisiana ports to the
Canadian border.
